Instrumental Curriculum
Our instrumental teachers use as a framework for their teaching “A Common Approach”. This is an initiative drawn together at a national level with the aim of providing a broad and balanced instrumental teaching curriculum. Through the five programmes of study which relate to the National Qualifications Framework, six areas of musical experience are explored:
- listening and internalising
- making and controlling musical sounds: developing technique
- creating, developing and interpreting musical ideas
- playing/singing music
- playing/singing music with others
- performing and communicating
Repertoire and tutor books which are used to deliver in lessons are discussed and agreed by the instrumental team to ensure that all pupils learning through the service have similar opportunities and musical experiences.
